What a difference smiles make. Adelaide has started smiling at us, her mobile, nothing at all. She pretty much smiles all the time. Today I noticed smile moved from a one to a social one. Wendy Kohman was holding her and every time Wendy said something, Adelaide's face would lit up. This is the absolute best milestone she's reached. This one will be hard to top.

Some pics of our cutie

All these pics are from the few days. Most are while in the hospital. The last one is on the way home.

The first night

That first hour after Adelaide's birth was one of the sweetest times of my life. Rocky and I just stared at her and held her as we all snuggled together. We couldn't get enough of looking at her. I held her skin to skin and nursed her shortly immediately after all her tests. She was pretty much perfect-- Apgar's of 9 and 10!

Rocky's parents arrived about an hour after Adelaide was born and got to be there for her first bath. They ooed and aahed and took about a million pictures that evening. Chick-fil-a never tasted as good as it did that evening for dinner. I was so hungry after all that hard work.

Most everyone said Adelaide should be pretty sleepy after the first couple of hours but she was not. She was sort of fussy. The nurses said it was gas, but what we learned the next morning was that she had swallowed lots of fluid while in the birth canal. Supposedly kiddos normally have it compressed out of them but since she descended so quickly she was stuck choking on it all that night and the next day. Once her lips even began to turn blue. Talk about freaky.

That evening we had tons of visitors-- the Wednesday night group (Brooke, Laurie, Katie, Joan Henegar) and Matt and Brandi and of course the grandparents. It was so fun sharing this experience with all our loved ones.
